Derrick and Sonya McCollum are the founders of The Marriage Menders, LLC and Licensed Clinical Social Workers specializing in marriage and family counseling. For more than 25 years, they have practiced together, helping couples and families strengthen their relationships. Based just outside of Atlanta, their practice provides both in-office and virtual counseling, serving individuals, families, and couples—married or unmarried—across the United States and abroad.
Derrick and Sonya recently celebrated their 30th Pearl Wedding Anniversary on September 3rd. They stay active and fulfilled through family life with their four children—Danielle (40), Sian (27), Sye (21), and Derrick II (17)—and their two grandchildren, Payton (14) and CJ (8). They are especially delighted that their daughter Sian joined the family counseling practice after earning her master’s in social work in 2021, where she now provides care to children and youth.
The McCollums emphasize the importance of mental and emotional wellness in their practice, showing how it connects to building healthy relationships in marriages, families, and communities. They are also the authors of Unlocking The Mysteries of Marriage, a book written to help both married couples and singles understand God’s plan for His children. Through candidly sharing their own marital challenges, they reveal how they grew stronger as individuals and as a couple. Their transparent approach is also showcased in several seasons of their YouTube segment, Can We Talk.
The Marriage Menders are passionate about helping couples understand, embrace, and celebrate God’s plan for His children, while guiding them through the changes that marriage requires—so they can grow together and be prepared for the kingdom of Heaven.
